I flew around with 2 guys who both had older derivatives, both with solid lifters, and i don't recall which generation of heads - perhaps 2nd Gen. I had two oil leaks on a brand new engine which took a few hours to resolve.

Thanks for the link TJay. I see in it that serial #2068 was the last solid lifter engine. They were the better earlier ones. I think most of the issues have been with the generation 2 engines from #2069- # 35XX (don't remember the exact # and to lazy to go back to that link just now) Maybe John will join this discussion, he had one of the earlier hydraulic lifter engines I believe.

Jan 24, 2007 · Don't have any experience with the Jabiru, but can tell you that I love the Rotax. It's a great motor, and they just upped the TBO to 2000hrs. It's efficient, smooth, and reliable. Burns no oil. Pretty much maintenance free for the most part, and burns premium autogas.
